Orchestra Ensembles
Sinfonia
The Sinfonia Orchestra, meeting daily during 1st Period, is made up of students performing GMEA Level 3–5 repertoire. Throughout the year, students work toward meeting Sprayberry High School Orchestra’s “Intermediate” level requirements. Participation includes all concerts, select after-school rehearsals (January–March), and the Large Group Performance Evaluation in March. Students are also encouraged to audition for the GMEA District 12 Honor Orchestra and All-State Orchestra.
Philharmonic
The Philharmonic Orchestra, meeting daily during 2nd Period, features advanced musicians performing GMEA Level 4–6 repertoire. Membership is by audition only and contingent on consistent preparation and conduct. Students work toward meeting Sprayberry High School Orchestra’s “Advanced” level requirements and are required to attend all concerts, designated after-school rehearsals (January–March), and the Large Group Performance Evaluation in March. Participation in auditions for the GMEA District 12 Honor Orchestra, GMEA All-State Orchestra, and KSU North Honors Orchestra is mandatory.
Mastery
The Chamber Orchestra, meeting daily during 3rd Period, consists of elite musicians performing Level 5–6 repertoire and tackling the most challenging literature. Membership is by audition only and may be revoked for lack of preparation or discipline. Students are required to audition for the GMEA District 12 Honor Orchestra, GMEA All-State Orchestra, or other prestigious music festivals, with the option to perform their audition in class or make alternate arrangements with teacher approval.
