About Our Program

The Sprayberry High School Orchestra program features three dynamic ensembles that support student growth at every level. Sinfonia Orchestra (1st Period) builds intermediate skills with GMEA Level 3–5 repertoire. Philharmonic Orchestra (2nd Period) is an auditioned group focused on advanced performance (Levels 4–6). Mastery Orchestra (3rd Period), our most elite ensemble, performs the most challenging repertoire (Levels 5–6) and requires a high level of commitment. All ensembles perform in concerts, LGPE, and may have after-school rehearsals. Students are encouraged or required to audition for district, state, and regional honors orchestras.

Sinfonia

Sinfonia is an intermediate-level ensemble performing GMEA Level 3–5 repertoire. Students in this group work toward meeting Sprayberry’s “Intermediate” Level Requirements by the end of the school year.

Participation Requirements:

  • Attendance at all concerts

  • Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE) in March

  • After-school rehearsals as scheduled (January–March)

Opportunities for Growth:
Students are encouraged to audition for:

  • GMEA District 12 Honor Orchestra

  • GMEA All-State Orchestra

Philharmonic

Philharmonic is a select ensemble performing advanced GMEA Level 4–6 repertoire and is open by audition only. Members work toward meeting Sprayberry’s “Advanced” Level Requirements by the end of the school year.

Expectations:

  • Consistent preparation and strong discipline

  • Attendance at all concerts

  • Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE) in March

  • After-school rehearsals as scheduled (January–March)

Required Auditions:

  • GMEA District 12 Honor Orchestra

  • GMEA All-State Orchestra

  • KSU North Georgia Honor Orchestra

Mastery

Mastery Orchestra is Sprayberry’s most advanced ensemble, performing challenging GMEA Level 5–6 repertoire. Membership is by audition only, and students are expected to maintain a high level of preparation and commitment to excellence.

Expectations:

  • Consistent readiness and professionalism

  • Active participation in all rehearsals and performances

  • Leadership within the orchestra community

​

Audition Opportunities:
Students are required to audition for at least one of the following:

  • GMEA District 12 Honor Orchestra

  • GMEA All-State Orchestra

  • Other approved music festivals

​

Auditions may be performed in class or scheduled with the director’s approval.
